In Tahiti September of 2006 I was attending the March for Jesus event in the public square, the heart of the capital city ofPapeete, where people came to eat, relax and hang out. This was the first time a Christian event had taken place there and I was there with Edualdo Cicero, President of The Desire of All Nations Tahiti Chapter – “Vision of the Harvest” – and his wife Aline.
Curious onlookers were everywhere and it wasn’t long before I saw Aline (who is Vietnamese) talking with Edualdo to a group of young men, between the ages of 18-30. They were fishermen from Communist and Atheistic Vietnam who had docked inPapeeteand had nothing to do so they came downtown. They spoke no English, French or Tahitian and Aline only knew a few words of Vietnamese. We tried every way to communicate and share the love of God but to no avail.
So a thought came to us. If we could find someone sick and demonstrate the power of God, that might work. So Edualdo and I acted out sicknesses, head pain, throwing up, limping, you name it, we tried it and eventually 2 stepped forward and acted out their problem. They both had stomach problems and as we prayed the power of God came upon them, even changing their countenances and they excitedly began to feel their stomachs. Now, the rest of the sailors began jostling to the front and before too long, at least 20 sailors had been prayed for and by their mannerisms were all testifying of feeling better. Neck problems, back problems and they were touching their toes, jumping up and down and just amazed. There was a sign that said JESUS and they took pictures of us and them in front of it and I am sure when they return to Vietnam the connection will be made. We saw them the next night and they all nodded that they were well.
